Figure 1: The “Pandemonium Effect” as discussed by J. Hardy et al., in 1977 [12] with a reference to John Milton’s Paradise Lost. The true picture of the decay of the neutron-rich parent nucleus ($Z,N$), with many weak beta transitions and following low-intensity $γ$ transitions, is given. Evidently, the determination of the true beta strength function, the $γ$-deexcitation patterns, and their interpretation might suffer from undetected $γ$ radiation.
