Figure 1: The plot superimposes the simplified normal (Gaussian) distribution used in the original Viewpoint article (pink) with a function calculated from the T2K data (red). To determine the curve, we calculated the likelihood for observing the six events published in Physical Review Letters for each sin2 2θ13 assumption predicted by Monte-Carlo simulations that includes all systematic uncertainties. (Inset) This new calculation substantially changes the tails of the function near zero.
