The plot superimposes the simplified normal (Gaussian) distribution used in the original Viewpoint article (pink) with a function calculated from the T2K data (red). To determine the curve, we calculated the likelihood for observing the six events published in Physical Review Letters for each sin^{2} 2θ_{13} assumption predicted by Monte-Carlo simulations that includes all systematic uncertainties. (Inset) This new calculation substantially changes the tails of the function near zero.
