Figure 5: The figure shows the present concept of the proposed DIANA accelerator facility at the Deep Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory DUSEL at Homestake Mine in South Dakota. The facility will operate a high-intensity, low-energy () light ion accelerator for measurements of critical reactions in stellar hydrogen and helium burning. A second accelerator, a Dynamitron machine, will provide intense helium and heavy ion beams for the measurement of critical reactions during the late phases of stellar evolution.
