The quark structure inside protons and neutrons changes based on the local nuclear environment, according to electron accelerator experiments.

Dam T. Son
Dam Thanh Son received his Ph.D. at the Institute for Nuclear Research in Moscow in 1995. He was a postdoc at the University of Washington (1995–1997) and MIT (1997–1999). From 1999 to 2002 he was a professor at Columbia University and a RIKEN-BNL fellow. He moved to Seattle in 2002 when he became a Senior Fellow at the Institute for Nuclear Theory and a professor in the Physics Department, University of Washington. His research interests include QCD, applications of string theory, and many-body physics.
Finding the critical point in quark-gluon plasma
The critical point is one of the main features of the phase diagram of strongly interacting quark-gluon matter. Finding this critical point in the lab will require luck and an understanding of the possible experimental signatures. Read More »
