Fernando J. Gómez-Ruiz is an assistant professor of physics at Carlos III University of Madrid. He earned his PhD from the University of Los Andes in Colombia, where he began exploring how nonequilibrium processes reveal the quantum nature of matter. His postdoctoral work at the Donostia International Physics Center, the Institute of Fundamental Physics, and the University of Valladolid, all in Spain, expanded this focus to quantum simulations, topological phases, and light–matter interactions. His research combines dynamical critical phenomena, such as the Kibble-Zurek mechanism, with foundational tests of quantumness, including Leggett-Garg inequalities and temporal quantum correlations.
