Harold Zandvliet obtained a Ph.D. in applied physics from the University of Twente, the Netherlands, in 1990. He then worked at Philips research laboratories in Eindhoven. Since 2005, he has been a professor of physics in the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Twente. He also heads the Physics of Interfaces and Nanomaterials Group of MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology. His research involves the study of single molecules, and one- and two-dimensional systems, using scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy.
