Dr. Joseph P. Heremans is Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and of Physics, at the Ohio State University, where he holds a chair as Ohio Eminent Scholar. His research focuses on the physics of narrow-gap semiconductors and semimetals, and particularly on thermal, electronic, and thermoelectric transport properties. He developed the use of resonant dopants as a means to engineer the electronic density-of-states to increase the efficiency of thermoelectric energy converters. Most recently, he has been working on the study of the thermal transport properties of spin currents (the spin Seebeck effect) in semiconductors.
