Julian Schmidt is a staff scientist in the Ion Trap Quantum Computing group at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Switzerland, where he is developing technologies critical for scaling trapped-ion platforms for quantum applications with a focus on integrated photonics. Prior to joining PSI, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Colorado and the Kastler Brossel Laboratory in France, where he researched quantum-logic spectroscopy and precision measurements with molecular ions. During his PhD, he developed optical traps for ions together with neutral atoms as a platform for studying ion-neutral quantum chemistry.
