Matthew Thompson is a Technology Development Manager at BAE Systems, Inc., working on projects in airborne sensors and hypersonic flight. Prior to that, he was the Director of Physics at TAE Technologies, Inc., a diversified company working on nuclear fusion and associated technologies. He transitioned to private industry in 2007 after working at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, and Fermilab on various particle accelerator projects. Outside the lab, he is heavily involved in mentoring young scientists and is the creator of ProsperousPhysicist.com. Thompson holds a Ph.D. in experimental plasma physics from the University of California, Los Angeles, and serves in multiple American Physical Society leadership positions.
