Nathalie Favretto-Cristini earned a Ph.D. in mechanics with a focus in acoustics from the University of the Mediterranean in Marseille, France, in 1997. She later worked at the Laboratory of Modeling and Imaging for Geosciences at the University of Pau, and since 2008 she has worked at the CNRS Laboratory of Mechanics and Acoustics of Marseille, for which she was the assistant director between 2012 and 2017. Her research interests include theoretical developments of seismic-wave propagation in geological media, laboratory-scale experiments for marine seismic-wave propagation and inversion, and the application of acoustic-emission techniques to the monitoring of nuclear fuel and the environment.
