Belita Koiller is a Professor of physics at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, where she is currently the chair of the Institute of Physics. In 2005, she was the Latin America L’Oreal UNESCO Laureate for Women in Science. Koiller completed her Ph.D. in physics at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1976 and has worked in several areas of condensed-matter theory. Currently, she studies the quantum properties of materials that relate to quantum devices.
