Daniel Read studied natural sciences at Cambridge University (1991–1994) and has a Ph.D. in polymer physics from the University of Leeds (1994–1997). He moved to the School of Mathematics at the University of Leeds in 2000 as a lecturer and subsequently a reader. He specialises in theoretical soft-matter physics, in particular, the rheology of entangled polymers and industrial plastic materials. He has also worked on the prediction of scattering from stretched polymeric materials.
