Jan Steinhoff obtained his Ph.D. at the Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena, Germany, under the supervision of Gerhard Schäfer.  After his first postdoc at the Instituto Superior Técnico in Portugal, he moved to the Albert Einstein Institute in Germany where he became a group leader in 2019.  His research focuses on analytic approximations for compact binaries and their emitted gravitational waves, in particular the application of quantum-field-theory methods to this problem.
