Katrin Erath-Dulitz is an assistant professor at University of Innsbruck in Austria. She investigates chemical reactions under conditions dominated by quantum effects. Her research is inspired by a deep curiosity to understand fundamental reaction mechanisms and the chemistry of outer space. She earned her doctorate from the University of Oxford in the UK for her work on slowing down supersonic atomic beams using pulsed magnetic fields. After a postdoc at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, she was a junior group leader at the University of Freiburg in Germany. (Photo by A. Schlieben, University of Freiburg.)

Microwaves Can Suppress Chemical Reactions

The heating effect of microwaves has long been used to accelerate reactions. A new experiment shows that microwaves can also excite molecules into a less reactive state. Read More ยป
