Maria Schuld works for the Toronto-based quantum machine learning start-up Xanadu and is a part-time researcher at the Big Data and Informatics flagship of the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) in Durban, South Africa. She received her Ph.D. degree in 2017 from UKZN for her research on the intersection of quantum computing and artificial intelligence, and she has a previous background in theoretical physics (Technical University of Berlin). Maria co-authored the book Supervised Learning with Quantum Computers (Springer, 2018).
